Pashtuns word is derived from their language, Pashtu (in Pashtu: they are called as "Pa-tuns, Pax-tuns, Pushtuns, Pakhtuns, Pushtuns" they are also called as Ethnic and Afghans). In Urdu English and some other languages they are called as Afghans.
They are also called Afghans because of their country Afghanistan. Most of their population is in Afghanistan some of them are living in NWFP (Noth West Fronteir Provence) current KPK (Khyber-Pakhtun-Khwa) as Refugees.
In Baluchistan and FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) They were moved from Afghanistan. When Pakistan came into being a large number of Pashtuns came to Pakistan as Refugees. In hazara they are living in Afghan Refugees Camps near Terbela lake and in Panian.
Majority of pashtuns are found in areas which are spreading from Southeastern to the Northwestern i-e; Afghanistan to KPK or NWFP of Pakistan. To the North and Northwestern of NWFP or KPK region of pakistan has majority of pashtuns. Hazara is inhebited by Hindko speaking or Hazarewals. Pashtun communitis are also found in Gilgit-Baltistan territory, attock, jalalabad, Quetta, swat, abbottabad, peshawar, kala dhaka in haripur hazara, mianwali, kohistan, kaghan and balochistan etc. Pathans of swat are called as swati pathans.
Pashtun communities are also living in other countries of the world, UAE, Iran, United Kingdom, Canada, India, United State, Malaysia and Singapore. Some of Baloch people are also pathans and Hindko speaking pathans are in region of hazara. Mostly people of hazara are hindko speaking, hazarewals pashtuns are rare in Haripur only afghan refuges camps made in backward area of Hazara. There are abou 15 camps. Houses are made up of mud and wooden logs. They have very poor standard of living because of less organizations working for them. Some NGOs are working for their food, education and health which had established number of schools and small hospitals.
Pashtuns played vital role in 19th and 20th century against Russia and British empires. And gained global attentian in Soviet War in Afghanistan and due to the rise of taliban and they were considered as the strongest people.
